A bifurcation lesion angioplasty is done when there is a blockage in a branching blood vessel. The anatomy of branching blood vessels makes standard balloon angioplasty much more complicated. Placing a balloon stent in one of the branches can cause the other branch to narrow or close. This complex procedure requires a dual(bifurcation) wire mesh stent to be placed inside both branches to keep them open for future treatments and to unblock.
