A chronic total occlusion angioplasty is done in cases of blockages that totally occlude a cardiac vessel and have been there for more than three months. This may cause symptoms like chest pain and breathlessness. It also increases the risk of heart attacks. A CTO is done by inserting a mesh tube with the help of a catheter from the groin/ wrist area till the targeted vessel.
