It is a small electrical device placed within the chest cavity to regulate heartbeats. It is prescribed when the heart beats too slowly. It is also called a heart-pacing device. Primarily, there are three types:
- Single chamber pacemaker
- Dual chamber pacemaker
- Biventricular pacemaker
A doctor will place the pacemaker through veins travelling up to the heart region. Depending upon the cause and extent of bradycardia, it can be temporary or permanent.
