Pulmonary Aspiration
This happens when food, drinks, saliva, or vomit enters the breathing pipe/ airways. It is a critical condition as it may lead to suffocation and even death if not handled in time.
Symptoms: Breathlessness, coughing, choking
Risk factors: Surgery, excess alcohol intake, reduced mental alertness due to medicines, lack of sleep, or illness.
