A PEG tube placement occurs when a patient cannot eat or drink anything. PEG stands for percutaneous endoscopic gastronomy. A small surgical cut is made into the skin, and a feeding tube is inserted through the skin along the stomach wall and directly into the stomach. A balloon is then inflated at the end of the tube to keep it in its proper position. It is an endoscopic surgery and does not require general anaesthesia.
