In Appendicectomy, a general surgeon removes the appendix, usually through keyhole surgery. An appendix is a small pouch-like organ attached to the lower part of the gut called the colon. It is removed if it is swollen, a condition called appendicitis. One may have a fever, vomiting, and severe pain in the lower right abdomen. Removing the appendix does not result in losing any function of the gut.
