Cholecystectomy is a surgery done by surgeons to remove the gallbladder. The gallbladder is a small bag-like organ under the liver that stores a digestive fluid called bile. The surgeons remove the gallbladder when it develops stones or infections. A surgeon may do a cholecystectomy using:
- Traditional open method or
- Minimally invasive surgery using a laparoscope.
The gallbladder is pulled out during the surgery, and the skin is closed with stitches.
