Hemorrhoids are swollen blood vessels in the lowermost part of the gut from where the stool passes and cause bleeding. They can be treated by medical methods or surgery. Hemorrhoidectomy is the surgical procedure of treating hemorrhoids when they do not respond to medical treatment.
Hemorrhoids may be:
- External - just around the anal opening
- Internal - inside the lowermost gut. The general surgeon performs a hemorrhoidectomy after giving a local pain-numbing injection.
The types of surgery are:
- Hemorrhoidectomy – removal of bleeding tissue
- Hemorrhoid stapling is a doppler-guided hemorrhoidectomy by stapling the blood vessels.
After the surgery, the doctors give pain medicine for a few days.
