Mastectomy
Surgeons perform Mastectomies to treat breast cancer. The type of surgery depends upon the stage of breast cancer and its spread. Different types of mastectomies are:
- Total mastectomy in which entire breast tissue and nipple are removed
- Modified radical mastectomy involves removing breast tissue and lymph nodes
- A lumpectomy is done to remove only the tumor.
The patient is given general anaesthesia, and the skin is closed after the surgery.
