Endoscopic brain tumor resection is now done as minimally invasive surgery. An endoscope is inserted to the point of the tumor via minor incision cuts in the skull or other body openings. Some tumors of the spine and the base of the skull can also be treated endoscopically via the nose.
This type of surgery has shown benefits like, minimally invasive as compared to open surgery:
- The recuperation time is shortened
- Has fewer side effects
- Less risk of brain trauma
- Reduced hospital stay
