Laminectomy is an effective procedure for patients suffering from spondylitis. It is a major surgery that involves removing a part of the lamina(the roof of the spinal canal). The surgery involves removing small, bony spurs or lamina tissue to widen the canal to relieve pressure and tightness from the nerves passing through the spinal cord. A laminectomy is major surgery and is not advised until more conservative treatments have failed.
