Spinal fusion is a major surgery involving neurosurgery and orthopedics that fuse two or more vertebrae. The surgery is done to make the spine more stable, to correct malformations, or to fix it in a proper position to relieve pain. It is done in any part of the spine, and the fuse parts are then immovable from each other. Metal screws, plates, or bolts are used to fuse the bones.
