Multiple sclerosis
The body's immune system targets its tissues in immune-mediated diseases like multiple sclerosis. Your doctor may start treating you with a disease-modifying medication if you have relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis (MS). Doctors often administer corticosteroids such as oral prednisone and intravenous methylprednisolone to minimize nerve irritation. If your symptoms are new, severe, and unresponsive to steroid treatment, plasma exchange (plasmapheresis) is used.
