Endovascular treatment of intracranial aneurysms
Aneurysms are outpouchings in the brain blood vessels which have weak wall. They present with bleeding into the brain as subarachnoid haemorrhage presenting as severe headache. If large these aneurysms presents with mass effect and cranial nerve palsies. With the advent of newer techniques and hardware, all types of aneurysms can be treated endovascularly. The various ways of treating these aneurysms are by coiling, balloon assisted coiling, stent assisted coiling or combination. If the aneurysm is too small or too large for coiling then special type of stent called as FLOWDIVERTER can be used.
