Helping in accurate diagnosis!
The Institute of Radiology and Imaging Sciences department in MIMS is one of the most state-of-the-art facilities in the entire country and is integrated with advanced technologies that are at par with the West. Imaging is the technique through which radiologists examine our internal organs without making any incisions. This is a kind of visual inspection that would help the radiologists make an accurate diagnosis. Through imaging, doctors and surgeons would be able to chart a treatment pattern and chart every course of surgery.
The department of Radiology offers a full spectrum of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures including X-ray, conventional contrast procedures, ultrasound, CT, MRI and interventional radiology. All the patients are treated safely and efficiently so that they get cutting edge radiology service which is one of the best in the whole country. The department provides a rich array of services ranging from vascular, abdominal, neurologic, cardiac, head and neck, musculoskeletal, paediatric (antenatal sonography, paediatric and neonatal sonography, neuro sonography) and women’s imaging (mammo sonography). The department is integrated with the finest equipment to do minimally invasive procedures under sonographic guidance, for example, biopsy of mediastinal and retro-peritoneal lymph nodes, lungs, liver, kidneys, breast and musculoskeletal lesions. The radiology services are provided by veteran radiologists whose knowledge and experience remains the best.
Our interventional radiologists use minimally invasive, image-guided techniques for the treatment of diseases with unprecedented precision in nearly every organ systems by harnessing the power of advanced imaging which has come up as an effective alternative to various surgeries. Advantages include pinhole surgical technique with least disfigurement or scar, minimal risk and side effects, shorter duration of procedures with minimal or no blood loss, very short hospital stay and early return to normal activity. It usually avoids the use of general anaesthesia and is the best-chosen option for patients with end-stage disease, inoperable diseases, old age group and those unfit for open or laparoscopic surgery
The radiology and imaging department has the most advanced systems aiming to reduce carbon footprint, reduce undesired side effects and provide safety. Thanks to the latest innovative radiofrequency technology, our patients do not have to go through any discomfort or difficulty during scanning or imaging.

FAQs
Want to find out more about the treatment? The answer to your questions can be found below.
What does a radiologist do?
Interventional radiologists play a crucial role in delivering modern imaging techniques for precise diagnosis and treatments. These experts fill the gap between traditional surgical methods and modern-day minimally invasive procedures. Their core purpose is to ensure safe and quick recovery through less painful surgical techniques.
What question should you ask a radiologist?
You can ask an interventional radiologist any question about the treatment and diagnosis of your condition. These questions may include what symptoms will be detected, their surgical methods, how they monitor patients' health, and whether any special preparation is required before you get to your imaging tests.
What are the most common types of conditions that radiologists treat?
Interventional radiologists treat several common conditions, including chronic pain, blood vessel blockages, tumours, urinary tract diseases, strokes, and many others. At Aster MIMS, our interventional radiologist in Kannur is an expert in diagnosing and treating critical health problems with safe and painless methods.
When should I consider seeing a radiologist?
You should consider seeing an interventional radiologist when you have any medical condition that requires minimally invasive, image-guided treatment. These conditions may include fractures, blockages of arteries, urinary tract problems, pain management, and more. Our interventional radiologist in Kannur can help you learn more about these conditions and their treatment.
How should I prepare for my first visit to a radiologist?
You should know all the vital aspects you want to discuss with an interventional radiologist during your first visit. These aspects include important questions about symptoms, diagnosis and treatments. Also, you need to take all the necessary health documents for these experts to understand your health issues.
How does a radiologist decide on a treatment plan?
Interventional radiologists don’t directly plan treatments; they work with other surgeons and doctors. They monitor patients' health conditions through image-guided tests and then discuss the reports with them to prepare an effective treatment plan or surgery.
Will a radiologist help manage side effects during treatment?
Interventional radiologists don’t manage side effects directly as they are involved with other surgeons and doctors during treatment. However, they will consistently monitor your health signals through image-guided equipment and inform others about the patient’s condition to prevent side effects.
What documents should I carry on my first visit to a radiologist?
The documents you should carry on your first visit to an interventional radiologist include your past medical records, health checkups, previous radiology tests (if any), and a reference of your prescription from your primary care doctor who has suggested any imaging test. You can consult our interventional radiologists to know more about what’s required for the meeting.
How do radiologists decide if surgery is necessary?
Interventional radiologists work consistently with other doctors and surgeons to monitor patients' health conditions through MRI, CT scans, and image-guided procedures. Their collaboration of expertise ensures they can decide whether or not surgery is required based on the test reports and medical documents.
