Does the cold weather increase the risk of injury?
Cold weather constricts blood vessels, and the body's natural shiver response does increase the risk of a muscle injury. A preventative measure is to properly warm up before beginning your workout and dress appropriately for your session.
Why should I use ice and not heat on my injury?
Ice is the best way to prevent additional swelling to a new injury. Heat applied to a new injury will only increase swelling in the area and increase recovery time. Ice should be applied directly to the area for twenty minutes and off for sixty minutes. Do not sleep with an ice bag on an injury.
