This department includes psychological and psychiatric conditions. It also involves intervention in almost every other speciality which faces behavioural changes as part of non-psychiatric conditions & maladjustment issues.
Neuropsychiatric disorders are instances of behavioural-emotional changes arising from brain dysfunction. Some causes of brain dysfunction include head injury, dementia, inflammatory conditions, and harm to the brain due to infections, harmful substance use or autoimmune states. Behavioural Medicine also deals with disorders where unexplained physical symptoms. Such conditions always need medical evaluation to confirm that no physiological abnormalities can explain the cause and extent of the issue. Examples of physical symptoms occurring because of this are sexual problems (lack of libido, erectile dysfunction), unexplained body pains, digestive problems, feelings of being unsteady while walking, and episodes of sudden difficulty in breathing or palpitation.
