A non-surgical procedure unlike other implantations, bone marrow transplant is performed to replace damaged or destroyed bone marrow stem cells. Bone marrow transplant is advised for patients with conditions such as leukaemia, aplastic anaemia and other immune system or genetic diseases. The diseased stem cells are removed completely through a conditioning therapy via high doses of radiation or chemotherapy. The patient will be infused with healthy stem cells obtained from the donor and they multiply their own, promoting the growth of new bone marrow. The engraftment of stem cells may take from 10 to 28 days.
At Aster MIMS, specialists from many specialties come together to perform bone marrow transplantation. From evaluation to the process and post transplantation, they ensure the best possible transplant outcome with the patient’s return to the wellness.
