Heart-lung transplantion, also referred to as cardiopulmonary transplantation, is a major but rare surgical procedure involving the simultaneous replacement of a patient’s diseased heart and lungs with those of a recently deceased donor. The procedure is performed on patients with end-stage cardiopulmonary failures ranging from congenital cardiac anomalies to pulmonary hypertension, and to treat cystic fibrosis occasionally. The procedure is recommended after an in-depth assessment of the patient’s physical and mental health. A heart-lung transplant is not recommended for aged, those with cancer, alcohol or drug addicts, obese or if the patient has a persisting mental health condition.
At Aster MIMS, we have a team of specialists who perform heart-lung transplantations in both adults and children through a multidisciplinary approach. Backed by advanced technologies, they ensure a speedy recovery of patients and help them return to a normal life with an increased quality of life.
