The Integrated Liver Transplant Services under the Division of Gastrointestinal Sciences at Aster MIMS, Calicut is the first and sole comprehensive liver care unit of North Kerala. The centre has performed more than 300 liver transplants over a short time and is the single high-volume liver transplant centre in North Kerala, with results at par with international standards. The unit caters for both adult and pediatric liver diseases. It is among the very few centres in south India doing pediatric liver transplants and has successfully performed liver transplants for babies weighing less than 6 kg.
The surgical division of Gastrointestinal Sciences is a private speciality clinic in north Kerala. The unit is a high-volume centre that performs major gastrointestinal, hepato-pancreato-biliary cancer surgeries laparoscopically and robotically. The unit also runs a subspecialty clinic for colorectal, gastrointestinal, and hepatic cancers.
The unit has a dedicated round-the-clock gastro and liver ICU managed by specialists which deals with the management of acute liver failure, gastrointestinal emergencies and post-operative care.
