With six years of experience in the field of Neurology, Dr. Hema Krishna P embarked on a journey that reflects a commitment to excellence and continuous learning. Graduating from Sri Venkateshwara Medical College, Tirupati with MBBS, he further pursued a DNB in General Medicine from St. Marthas Hospital, Bangalore. The pursuit of specialization in Neurology led to a DM degree from Calcutta National Medical College, Kolkata.
Post-specialization, Dr. Hema Krishna P served as an Associate Consultant at the Institute of Neurosciences, Kolkata. During this tenure, there was a dedicated focus on honing skills in Movement Disorders, working closely with Dr. Hrishikesh Kumar for a year. Seeking deeper insights, a fellowship in Movement Disorders was pursued at the prestigious Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute of Medical Sciences and Technology (SCTIMST), Trivandrum, Kerala. Additional expertise was gained in pain medicine, completing a Basic Fellowship from the Aesculap Academy (Daradia).
His expertise lies in managing complex movement disorders, including Parkinson’s disease, other Parkinsonian disorders, Dystonia, Tremors, Chorea, Myoclonus, Tics, and various neurological conditions such as Headache, Stroke, Epilepsy, and demyelinating disorders.
A significant chapter involves his active involvement in the care of over 30 patients undergoing Deep Brain Stimulation surgery for Parkinson’s disease and Dystonia. This encompasses patient selection, comprehensive pre-operative evaluations, intra-operative monitoring, Microelectrode Recording (MER), and dedicated post-operative care. Furthermore, his expertise extends to programming over 350 patients who underwent DBS surgery.
In therapeutic interventions, Dr. Hema Krishna P has administered Botulinum toxin injections to approximately 600 patients. This specialized skill set has been applied to address various conditions, including Cervical Dystonia, Hemifacial Spasm, Blepharospasm, Oromandibular Dystonia, Writer’s Cramp, Spasticity, Migraine, and more.
