Is it safe to do MRI scanning repeatedly and in children?
Yes. Since there is no radiation involved MRI scanning can be done multiple times and in pediatric patients.
How much time MRI scanning takes?
Depending on the part which is being scanned the time varies from 20 minutes to 60 minutes.
How is MRI different from CT scan?
Both these modalities create cross sectional images. MRI uses magnetic radiation and CT ionizing radiation. MRI is extremely good to detect soft tissue abnormalities including brain, disc and joints however CT is excellent modality for chest, bones and abdomen. No radiation in MRI so useful in pregnancy and pediatrics.
Will I get pain after biopsy?
Yes, some patients might get pain after the biopsy. Patient can take routine pain killers for the same.
What preparations are required for CT guided biopsy?
Patient needs to be empty stomach for 6 hours prior to biopsy. Blood thinners like ecopsirin needs to be stopped 5 days prior to biopsy after consultation with the treating physician. PT, PTT , INR tests needs to be done before the biopsy. Patient is observed for 4 to 5 hours after biopsy before discharge.
How long I need to stay in hospital after contrast CT?

How do I feel during or after contrast CT scan?
After IV injection of contrast, patient might feel warmth in the body and metallic taste in mouth for few second and then disappear.
Is it painful to do CT scan?
No. CT scan is not painful.
Is there any alternatives for CT scan?
Yes. Other modalities like ultrasound and MRI can be used.
What can be done to lower radiation dose in CT?
In our hospital we do low radiation dose protocol to reduce radiation dose.
