What preparation is required for doing USG?
Patient should be with full bladder prior to the ultrasound. For looking at gall bladder stones or pathologies it is advised ultrasound after 12 hours of empty stomach. For transvaginal USG, empty baldder is required.
Is there any radiation involved with USG?
No
Can USG can be repeatedly?
Yes. Since there is no ionizing radiation involved with USG, it can repeated multiple times.
Can small kidney or gall stones missed in USG?
Yes. If the stones are very small it can be missed. It can also be missed due to overlying bowel gas.
Will I get pain after biopsy?
Yes, some patients might get pain after the biopsy. Patient can take routine pain killers for the same.
What preparation is required for transrectal ultrasound?
Patient has to take enema or laxatives in the night before the ultrasound to clear the bowel.
Is there any risks involved for doing USG?
No.
Is it safe for the children and pregnant women?
Yes. It is safe.
What preparations are required for USG guided biopsy / procedures?
Patient needs to be empty stomach for 6 hours prior to biopsy. Blood thinners like ecopsirin needs to be stopped 5 days prior to biopsy after consultation with the treating physician. PT, PTT , INR tests needs to be done before the biopsy. Patient is observed for 4 to 5 hours after biopsy before discharge.

Patient needs to be empty stomach for 6 hours prior to biopsy. Blood thinners like ecopsirin needs to be stopped 5 days prior to biopsy after consultation with the treating physician. PT, PTT , INR tests needs to be done before the biopsy. Patient has to take enema or laxatives in the night before the ultrasound to clear the bowel. Patient is observed for 4 to 5 hours after biopsy before discharge. Patient has to take antibiotics for 5 days after the procedure.
