Cancers that affect the head and neck region are treated with various modalities, one of them being surgery. If surgery requires the removal of a large part of body tissue, it will require reconstruction of that part so that the patient can retain the function of that part, for example, lip movement & tongue reconstruction for speech; mandible & jaw reconstruction for chewing. Reconstruction also helps to restore the appearance of the face to socially acceptable levels or sometimes even near normal levels comparable to before the removal of the tumour.
For this, our department specialises and provides various options including free flaps & other aesthetic techniques to restore facial features and function. Our success rate in hand and neck-free flaps is equivalent to any world-class institute.
