What a PELD Surgery? Patient Says "Back pain can be reversed in a day"
A Minimally invasive Keyhole surgery for spinal cord injury (PELD) gives a speedy recovery to Maldivian citizen.
A 33-year-old Maldivian man who suffered a severe back injury in a accident, had a speedy recovery at Aster MIMS Kottakkal after undergoing PELD Procedure. Mr. Ahmed Umair Mohamed Shakir, a native of Mali, suffered a serious back injury in 2011 after a fall. Expert examination revealed a herniated disc and doctors suggested surgery as the only option. He underwent a complicated open surgery which was performed in Mali.
After the surgery, the pain subsided, but after some time the pain returned and worsened gradually. He tried to control the pain through medicines etc. but could not recover completely. Gradually the pain increased to the point where he could not stand, sit or lie down for five minutes at a time. The pain was reduced only by lying down. A further MRI scan was then performed and it was found that the same condition had recurred in the previously injured area. The doctors decided that the only cure was to repeat the open surgery once again.
