Koode'23 - Life-saving surgeries for underprivileged children

Koode-2023, the second phase of the scheme ‘Koode’ jointly ventured by Thanal Vadakara, Aster Volunteers, Global CSR arm of Aster DM Healthcare and Aster MIMS, Calicut to provide free life-saving surgeries for underprivileged children, was announced by M.K Raghavan, MP, Calicut in an event held in Calicut. 250 children under the age of 18 from unprivileged families in Kerala & other states will be supported for life-saving surgeries including born marrow & organ transplant surgeries at free of cost. Approximately Rs. 5 crore is expected to be spent on the project.

"This intervention is a crying need of society and will behelpful for many children suffering from various critical conditions. Koode- 2023, the joint venture of Aster-Thanal, will be beneficial for the needful children across the country." said M. K. Raghavan MP, Calicut.

Dr. Azad Moopen, Chairman and Managing Director, Aster DM Healthcare, the chief guest at the event inaugurated ‘Milestone’ a new Pediatric- Neuro Rehabilitation Centre, in association with Thanal, providing yeoman services to the special kids, suffering from SMA and developmental disorders.

"The difficulties experienced by the families of differently abled children are enormous. We all are bound to support these children with utmost care and empathy and providing such support is one of the most important acts of kindness we can perform. It is with this purpose that 'Koode 2022' and 'Koode 2023' are announced, 'Dr. Azad Moopen, Chairman and Managing Director, Aster DM Healthcare.

"It is a fact that children with acute illness can survive their major phase of life through some surgical interventions’. Considering this reality, Thanal had brought about a special scheme to support sick children who are denied treatment for want of money.," said Dr. Idrees, Chairman, Thanal by presenting the last year’s report of ‘Koode 2022.’ A celebration commemorating the successful completion of the ‘Koode 2022’, a scheme which conducted free Deformity Correction surgery (orthopaedic) for differently-abled children was held in conjunction with the event.

The first phase of the project was launched on March 1, 2022. From 5000 applications received, the screening camps were conducted for more than 2800 children across the state. The needy 102 children of the 863 children who were advised for further evaluation and expert treatment, have been provided with various deformity corrective surgeries totally free of cost. The project cost was more than 2 crore rupees.
