The theme of this year's World Mental Health Day, set by the World Federation for Mental Health, is 'Mental health in an unequal world

My theme: Mental Health in the Mainstream"

The pandemic has had a major impact on people’s mental health. The pandemic has enhanced inequalities in human development, comprising coping, with a dual problem of mental health disorder and dismantling already hand-to-mouth mental health services. Many people with a mental illness do not receive the treatment that they are entitled to and deserve and together with their families and carers continue to experience stigma and discrimination. Mental Health inequalities cause harm to people, families, and communities. Reducing MH inequalities will have multifold benefits, better lives, a fairer society, and a stronger economy. Discussing mental health is something that has often not been part of normal social protocol. Discussing mental health is something that has often not been part of normal social protocol.

My dream as a psychologist, "Mental Health in the Mainstream"

Mental Health in the Mainstream aims to reflect the diversity of people’s experiences. Mental health is at a crossroads. What would it take to move towards a society that fully supports the rights and inclusion of people with mental health problems and knows the value of good mental health? In this positive sense, mental health is the foundation for well-being and effective functioning for an individual and for a community. Like health promotion, mental health promotion involves actions that support people to adopt and maintain healthy lifestyles and which create supportive living conditions or environments for health.

Asking for help is the first step, and it is often the hardest step.

Coming to terms with treatment can be very difficult, but in order to find the right tools to help live with psychological disorders, one must first find acceptance. Most people deny that they need help at first. But with the help of family and friends, often they can intervene and help people find recovery through competent and evidence-based programs.

Psychotherapy- Counseling (Non-Medicine Treatment)

Psychotherapy is the therapeutic treatment of mental illness provided by a trained mental health professional. Psychotherapy explores thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, and seeks to improve an individual’s well-being. In some cases, Psychotherapy paired with medication is the most effective way to promote recovery. Examples include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance Commitment Therapy, Relaxation Therapy Exposure Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), etc.

Mental health has a reciprocal relationship with the well-being and productivity of a society and its members.

Let’s transform our society to better mental health regime for all.
