Importance of heart health
On World Heart Day, we reflect on the importance of heart health through diet, exercise, and advanced medical care. Here's a story of triumph:
At Aster RV Hospital, Raj, suffering from cardiomyopathy as an impact of Long covid disease with a 15% ejection fraction, awaited a heart transplant. His condition deteriorated, requiring constant oxygen and leaving him breathless after just 10 steps.
Our cardiac rehab team initiated a prehabilitation program. Starting with basic bed exercises, Raj (name changed) progressed to walking 10 minutes without oxygen after a month. Soon after, he received a heart transplant.
Post-surgery rehabilitation began immediately, even in the ICU. Remarkably, Raj was discharged in just 14 days, half the expected time due to extensive medical and paramedical support from the team.
Cardiac Rehabilitation
This case highlights the positive impact of cardiac rehabilitation on conditions like dyslipidemia, heart attacks, post-CABG, angioplasty, and diabetes management. prehabilitation enhances patients' readiness for procedures, while post-transplant rehab aids in recovery and adaptation.
On World Heart Day, we emphasize the importance of a balanced diet, regular exercise, and cardiac rehab in heart health. Raj's story demonstrates that with proper care and determination, even severe heart conditions can be overcome, showcasing the pinnacle of medical science in saving lives.
