Dr. Bhawana Mishra explains the significance of HPV vaccine in today's healthcare discussions.HPV vaccine is vital for preventing HPV infections, with increasing awareness in the community.The HPV vaccine is transmitted sexually and is effective before engaging in physical relations. It is recommended for people around 14 years of age in the Indian scenario.The second shot is given after two months of the first shot.The third shot is given after 6 months from the first shot.Those with early sexual activity and multiple partners are at higher risk for HPV infections.Women with short childbirth intervals, poor family planning, or from low socioeconomic backgrounds should also consider getting vaccinated.Vulnerable groups such as those on steroids or those who smoke are more prone to HPV-related cancer.Cervical cancer originates from the mouth of the uterus and is prevalent in India.The cost of the vaccine in India is affordable, around Rs. 000 when combined with all three doses.It is not very useful for individuals who have already started their sexual life or have a family, but can still be taken until the age of 45 years.Women who have received the vaccine should continue to get Pap smear or other screening tests regularly.It takes approximately 10 years for cervical cancer to develop from HPV infection.
