Understanding Botox and Fillers: Effective Cosmetic Procedures

by Dr. Ashok B C

Dr. Ashok B.C., HOD - Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery and Chief of Medical Services at Aster Whitefield Hospital, discusses Botox injections and fillers as effective cosmetic procedures.

What is Botox?

Dr. Ashok B C explains that Botox is a toxin derived from an organism that can be used to temporarily paralyze muscles. This is particularly useful for reducing wrinkles caused by facial muscle movement. The procedure is minimally invasive and can be completed in about 10 minutes. However, it is important to have the procedure performed by a qualified and experienced surgeon to avoid complications.

What are Fillers?

Fillers, on the other hand, are used to add volume to areas of the face that have lost volume due to aging. There are two types of fillers: synthetic fillers, such as hyaluronic acid, and fat transfers, which involve taking fat from one area of the body and injecting it into another. Fillers can be used to plump lips, cheeks, and under eye hollows.
