Who needs Plastic surgery?
Dr. Ashok B.C., HOD of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery and Chief of Medical Services, Aster Whitefield Hospital talks about two main types of plastic surgery: reconstructive surgery and aesthetic surgery.
Reconstructive surgery is performed to restore function or improve the appearance of a part of the body that has been affected by disease, injury, or congenital defect. For example, reconstructive surgery can be used to repair a cleft lip or palate, or to rebuild the breast after a mastectomy.
Aesthetic surgery, also known as cosmetic surgery, is performed to improve the appearance of a part of the body that is not causing any functional problems. For example, aesthetic surgery can be used to rhinoplasty (nose job) or liposuction.
Dr. Ashok mentions that cosmetic surgery is elective and up to the individual. He says that some people may choose to have cosmetic surgery if they feel that it will improve their quality of life. For further information, consult our experts at Aster Whitefield Hospital.
