Vitiligo Vulgaris is a type of vitiligo that presents with depigmented patches on the skin due to the destruction of melanocytes, the cells responsible for producing skin pigment (melanin). These patches can appear anywhere on the body and vary in size and shape.
Causes of Vitiligo
There are various theories behind why Vitiligo can be caused. This includes autoimmune factors, oxidative stress, neurogenic theory, auto cytotoxic theory and vitamin deficiency. Dr. Priyanka further elaborates on each of these theories.
Management of Vitiligo
Vitiligo can be managed through medications or surgery. Surgical options like skin grafting, suction blister grafting and non-cultured melanocyte transfer are available and may be suggested after close evaluation.
