She discusses the different types of bleeding that can occur during the first trimester, including implantation bleeding, threatened miscarriage, early miscarriage, and ectopic pregnancy.
Causes of first trimester bleeding
In addition to the causes mentioned above, other possible causes of first trimester bleeding include cervical infections, molar pregnancy and subchorionic hematoma (a collection of blood between the placenta and the uterine wall)
Symptoms of first trimester bleeding
The symptoms of first trimester bleeding can vary depending on the underlying cause. However, common symptoms include vaginal bleeding, abdominal cramping, pelvic pain and back pain
Diagnosis and treatment of first trimester bleeding
In addition to the methods mentioned above, other diagnostic tests that may be used to diagnose first trimester bleeding include blood tests (to check for pregnancy hormone levels and blood clotting disorders) and cervical cultures (to check for infections).
Some general treatment options include bed rest, avoiding strenuous activity, taking medications to prevent miscarriage (such as progesterone) or surgery (in cases of ectopic pregnancy or molar pregnancy).
