by Dr. Vishnu Priya

In this video, Dr. Vishnu Priya, Consultant - Obstetrics and Gynecology at Aster Women and Children Hospital explains about Recurrent Pregnancy Loss.

Causes of RPL

Recurrent Pregnancy Loss (RPL) means having three or more pregnancy losses before the 20th week. Two to three percent of women in reproductive age group suffer from RPL. Some causes of RPL are genetics, endocrine disorders, inherited thrombophilia, abnormal shape of the uterus, cervical incompetence, blood group mismatch and clotting disorders.

Treatment for RPL

RPL is treatable and preventable. Some of the treatment options include aspirin, heparin injections, progesterone supplements and surgery to correct structural defects in the uterus. Pre-pregnancy counselling is also recommended to all women planning for pregnancy.
