The Aster Centre for Clinical Research and the Centre for Excellence in Women's Health at Aster Medcity organized a symposium on updates in Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM) at Avenue Regent on 26th October 2024. The symposium aimed to identify various gaps in GDM management and practice (including research, clinical, and patient perspectives) and to recommend solutions for bridging these gaps. Dr. Yashdeep Gupta, Additional Professor, Department of Endocrinology, AIIMS, New Delhi, Dr. Uma Ram, Senior Consultant and Director of Seethapathi Clinic, Chennai, and Dr. Vishnu Vasudevan, Consultant Endocrinology, Moulana Hospital, served as the speakers for the program. Dr. Paily Vakkanal, Senior Consultant, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Rajagiri Hospital, and Dr. Radhamoni, Professor and Head of Obstetrics & Gynecology, Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, Kochi, chaired the sessions.
Dr. Sherly Mathen, Dr. Maya Devi Kurup, Dr. Shameema Anvarsadath, Dr. Tina Anna Joy, and Dr. Sindhu T.P., all senior consultants from the Centre for Excellence in Women's Health, Aster Medcity co-chaired several sessions. A healthy lifestyle book for GDM mothers was released by Dr. Yashdeep Gupta and handed over to Dr. Paily Vakkanal in the presence of Dr. Uma V. Sankar, Research Administrator at Aster Medcity, and the team of senior consultants from the Centre for Excellence in Women's Health.
Nearly 120 participants attended the symposium. Dr. Maya Chacko, Project Scientist, summarized the consensus from the discussions at the event. The symposium was sponsored by the ICMR GDM project.
